DETECT
New Product Design and Engineering Technologies based on next Generation Computed Tomography

Specific Targeted Research Project (STREP), Priority 3 – NMP, Research area: 3.4.3.1-2

Project co-ordinator: Fraunhofer Gesellschaft zur Foerderung der angewandten Forschung e.V. IPA, Germany
Contact Person (in Romania): Lucia Bolboaca , Technical University of Cluj-Napoca - TUCN

Objectives:

The main project objectives are to develop new basic hardware components and algorithms for fast and accurate 3D-CT scanning for parts of any complexity and large dimensions, new algorithms for automated CT image processing, fast surface and solid modeling as well as methodologies for the integration of the new technologies into the rapid product development and manufacturing processes. A next generation CT prototype will be set up for validation and testing. A particular attention will also be given to make these new technologies well known to the key European industries.

TUCN contribution:

Know-how and experience in the following areas of interest: RE, CAD Systems (testing and validation), collaboration in developing standards and regulations, transfer of knowledge through training programs (E-DETECT, TRAINING-DETECT, DEMO-DETECT) and dissemination. The training skills and abilities obtained in the frame of TEMPUS and LEONARDO programs are complementary to the specialization of the consortium members. The development and application of the “Dissemination by Involvement” concept using information stored in a database, organization of workshops, and the use of the Internet support, will allow the know-how transfer to and from the members of the target group (especially SME’s).

Expected impact:

    • Creation and development of a durable cooperation model between research and industry allowing a coherent and flexible knowledge transfer from both parts.
    • Knowledge transfer to an increased number of SME’s, companies, universities and research centers both from EU and PAC members.
    • High efficiency of the dissemination expressed by the number of the target group members (from the quantitative point of view) and by the innovative degree of knowledge generated in the project (from the qualitative point of view).
    • Improving the education of Virtual Engineering specialists
